Career and Life Quote for Thursday, December 28th, 2011...

Life is like ordering a pizza.
We place our order with the exact ingredients "we think" we want.
We start wondering and imagining how good it will be and get excited about its arrival.
And we have worked one way or another to pay for it, and when it arrives are we satisfied?
Pizza= thirty minutes or less
Life= thirty years or more
Makes you wonder what we are ordering?

Career and Life Quote for Tuesday, December 27th, 2011...

No Matter How Busy You Are by Jim Rohn

No matter how busy you are, make sure to find some time over the next two weeks to reflect, think, give and plan.

The week between Christmas and New Year's is the ideal time for this. Try to slow things down. Spend time with the ones you love and care about. Take some time to talk with your spouse and kids about goals and dreams for the next year. Use this as a time to recharge your batteries (and not just by watching TV the entire time), and with excitement, think about a handful of changes or additions you want for your life in the New Year.

I believe you will find the act of reflecting, thinking, dreaming and planning (with your family) to be one of the most important exercises you can do that will positively impact the next 12 months.

And, remember, do not neglect to commit yourself to set this time aside, or you will find that the business of life can and will get in the way.

So, let's all take a moment to gather up the past year of victories and defeats, growing as well as those times of stagnation, and use it to wipe a clean slate and thoughtfully design the next year the way we truly desire it to be.

via Spirit of Golf~
THOUGHTS OF THE DAY - We look at a golf shot as it appears and say, “See, it has to be real and true.” What we fail to realize – and what the latest brain research is telling us – is that the only reason we see the shot the way we do is because of preexisting patterns of optimism or doubt already firing inside the brain. With a lot of negativity, judgment, and fear front loaded inside of us, what we see is a predominance of negative and fearful shots for us to judge (an activity the ego loves to do). With a brain that is patterned with a lot of optimism, acceptance, and can do, just the opposite is true. A belief is just a thought we have told ourselves over and over again. Perception, not reality, is what we see in the form of manifested physical proof. www.myspiritofgolf.com

Career and Life Quote for Friday, November 18, 2011...

Be Thankful...By Unknown

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times,
during those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”

Happy September to all!

The courage to begin separates dreamers from achievers.
Your difficulty and the difficulty of everyone who ever
desires to achieve anything worthwhile comes in the movement.
Don’t always be intending to live a new life but never
find a time to begin living it.
Most people fail because they never get started.
They don’t go they don’t overcome inertia, they don’t begin.
Begin to free yourself at once by doing all that
is possible with the means you have.
As you proceed in this spirit, the way will open
for you to do more. The worst you can do is not to try.

Career and LIfe Coaching Thought of the Day!

It's a New Month, a New Week and a New Beginning! "The obstacles of your past can

become the gateways that lead to new beginnings."

Career and LIfe Coaching Thought of the Day!

Make New Habits Stick :-)

1. Commit to Thirty Days – Three to four weeks is all the time you need to make a habit automatic. If you can make it through the initial conditioning phase, it becomes much easier to sustain. A month is a good block of time to commit to a change since it easily fits in your calendar.

2. Make it Daily – Consistency is critical if you want to make a habit stick. If you want to start exercising, go to the gym every day for your first thirty days. Going a couple times a week will make it harder to form the habit. Activities you do once every few days are trickier to lock in as habits.

3. Start Simple – Don’t try to completely change your life in one day. It is easy to get over-motivated and take on too much. If you wanted to study two hours a day, first make the habit to go for thirty minutes and build on that.

4. Remind Yourself – Around two weeks into your commitment it can be easy to forget. Place reminders to execute your habit each day or you might miss a few days. If you miss time it defeats the purpose of setting a habit to begin with.

5. Stay Consistent – The more consistent your habit the easier it will be to stick. If you want to start exercising, try going at the same time, to the same place for your thirty days. When cues like time of day, place and circumstances are the same in each case it is easier to stick.

6. Get a Buddy – Find someone who will go along with you and keep you motivated if you feel like quitting.

7. Form a Trigger – A trigger is a ritual you use right before executing your habit. If you wanted to wake up earlier, this could mean waking up in exactly the same way each morning. If you wanted to quit smoking you could practice snapping your fingers each time you felt the urge to pick up a cigarette.

8. Replace Lost Needs - If you are giving up something in your habit, make sure you are adequately replacing any needs you’ve lost. If watching television gave you a way to relax, you could take up meditation or reading as a way to replace that same need.

9. Be Imperfect – Don’t expect all your attempts to change habits to be successful immediately. It took me four independent tries before I started exercising regularly. Now I love it. Try your best, but expect a few bumps along the way.

10. Use “But” – A prominent habit changing therapist once told me this great technique for changing bad thought patterns. When you start to think negative thoughts, use the word “but” to interrupt it. “I’m no good at this, but, if I work at it I might get better later.”

11. Remove Temptation - Restructure your environment so it won’t tempt you in the first thirty days. Remove junk food from your house, cancel your cable subscription, throw out the cigarettes so you won’t need to struggle with willpower later.

12. Associate With Role Models - Spend more time with people who model the habits you want to mirror. A recent study found that having an obese friend indicated you were more likely to become fat. You become what you spend time around.

13. Run it as an Experiment - Withhold judgment until after a month has past and use it as an experiment in behavior. Experiments can’t fail, they just have different results so it will give you a different perspective on changing your habit.

14. Swish - A technique from NLP. Visualize yourself performing the bad habit. Next visualize yourself pushing aside the bad habit and performing an alternative. Finally, end that sequence with an image of yourself in a highly positive state. See yourself picking up the cigarette, see yourself putting it down and snapping your fingers, finally visualize yourself running and breathing free. Do it a few times until you automatically go through the pattern before executing the old habit.

15. Write it Down – A piece of paper with a resolution on it isn’t that important. Writing that resolution is. Writing makes your ideas more clear and focuses you on your end result.

16. Know the Benefits - Familiarize yourself with the benefits of making a change. Get books that show the benefits of regular exercise. Notice any changes in energy levels after you take on a new diet. Imagine getting better grades after improving your study habits.

17. Know the Pain – You should also be aware of the consequences. Exposing yourself to realistic information about the downsides of not making a change will give you added motivation.

18. Do it For Yourself - Don’t worry about all the things you “should” have as habits. Instead tool your habits towards your goals and the things that motivate you. Weak guilt and empty resolutions aren’t enough.

reinforcing your interest in the position. Something as simply as, “Thank you for

your time today, I really appreciate it and I am definitely interested in taking the

next step as you see fit. Look forward to hearing from you.” Don’t leave them to

wonder, go ahead and put yourself out there. Just make sure you don’t appear

Preparing for Your Interview Meeting~

Research the organization/firm...

You need to know if you want to work there. What do they

do? What products or services do they offer? Who are their customers, clients? With

know about them, the better you will be able to explain how you can fit into their

How to Help Your Child Transition Successfully from College to Career
A Guide for Parents~

1. Invest in career development coaching. After spending tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars on college, it’s a pretty sure bet that your children never received ANY training or guidance in how to choose a career, get a job, or participate productively in the workforce. Don’t let all that money go to waste. Invest another 1%-5% to ensure that your children’s education will pay-off – with smarter career choices, better jobs, and higher long-term compensation.

2. Teach your children responsible work habits. Patience, discipline, respect, industriousness and punctuality are habits that were “assumed” in previous generations of new workers – but these qualities are all too rare among recent college graduates. Employers complain about this, and they are worried about how to find, develop and retain a workforce to replace the huge numbers of retiring baby boomers. The new employees who will get ahead are the ones who embrace and embody these traits. Therefore, parents should strive to model these behaviors and instill these qualities early in the lives of their children.

3. Don’t tell your children that, “If they finish college, they’ll be assured of a successful career.” This may have been true several generations ago, but it certainly isn’t true any longer. Today’s college degree is yesterday’s high school diploma – and it doesn’t guarantee ANYTHING. To succeed in today’s work-world, your children will need much more than a college degree. They’ll need your guidance, along with talent, determination, persistence, a strong work ethic and maybe a bit of good luck. They’ll also need a real-world perspective on what it REALLY takes to succeed.

Career and LIfe Coaching Thought of the Day!

Why Faith Matters~ by PM, Tony Blair...

Former British prime minister Tony Blair says that we should strive to understand one another's beliefs and work together to build a better world.

I remember very clearly what would nowadays be called my spiritual awakening, the moment when faith became something personal to me. Until that day, I had been an extremely lucky child. I had a loving family and a comfortable life, and my father was a successful lawyer.

When I was 10, my father, just 40, suffered a severe stroke and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors were uncertain if he would survive. My mother, trying to keep a sense of normality for her children, sent us to school that morning.

To provide comfort to a frightened and bewildered boy, the head teacher, who was ordained, suggested that he and I kneel and pray for my father's recovery. I knew this was not as straightforward as he thought, and I plucked up the courage to whisper, "I'm afraid my father doesn't believe in God."

My teacher's reply was to make a lasting impression on me. "That doesn't matter," the man said. "God believes in him. He loves him without demanding or needing love in return."

My father ended up making a good recovery after a long rehabilitation. Nearly 50 years later, he remains an atheist. And while I did not become a fully committed and practicing Christian overnight, that conversation with my teacher started the process in which I came to recognize that there is a purpose to our existence beyond ourselves.

I was confirmed while I was at college, and faith has been a constant in my life. Yet even for nonbelievers, faith cannot be ignored. Today, religious beliefs -- whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or other creeds -- are at the core of the lives of two-thirds of the world's population, giving them sense and direction. And it is not only a matter of numbers -- faith matters because it inspires people to act and raise their sights beyond themselves.

Sadly, religion can be distorted into violent extremism. Having spiritual beliefs has never rendered a person incapable of doing wrong or evil. But far more often, faith can be a force for good. I have witnessed its positive impact wherever I've gone in the world. I've seen it at major disasters in the incredible humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross, Islamic Relief, or World Jewish Relief, all organizations inspired by belief. I've also seen it in the central role of synagogues, churches, temples, and mosques in helping the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged in every country. In every case, men and women of faith who are trying to put the idea of unconditional love into practice are leading these efforts.

We should not allow those who use religion as a divisive force to succeed. We can harness its power and common values to bring us together. This is more important than ever in an age when the Internet, mass communication, and travel are shrinking the world.

None of this means giving up our own beliefs -- I always say that no matter the company, I remain a Christian. But it does require focusing on the vast areas we share and not on the much smaller areas that separate us. Two years ago, I launched the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Among our projects, we've connected students from different continents and religions to help them learn from one another. We've united faith communities to fight against malaria, a disease that kills one million people a year. And we recently held a competition in which young people around the world created short films that showed what their religious beliefs mean to them.

That idea of unconditional love, which made such an impression on a frightened young boy so long ago, is at the core of all our great faiths. We need to get back to this guiding light. By understanding one another, respecting one another, and acting with one another, we can show why humanity is made not poorer by faith but immeasurably richer.

Tony Blair, who served as Britain's prime minister from 1997 to 2007, is the author of the new memoir "A Journey: My Political Life." To read more about his work, go to tonyblairfaithfoundation.org.

* Know the company and the role you are applying for; you can become acquainted with the company by reviewing their website in detail.

* Always listen extremely carefully. Ask for clarification,as needed. Make notes if this is a helpful reference for you.
* Express your thoughts in a clear and organized manner.
* Be thoughtful about your tone of voice and how quickly you speak.
* Come prepared with questions about the position, the firm and culture.

Telephone interviews are a very common first step in the interview process today. Here are some tips to help you during the telephone interview.

* Be sure you have your resume you submitted for reference.
* Know the name of the person you will be talking to, your notes and questions.
* Have a pen and paper or other note-taking system to record notes, new information, phone numbers and names.

Good luck!
Resume tips~

Write and Present a resume that stands out from the pile.
Put your best foot forward with a strong resume...

The purpose of your resume is to obtain an interview meeting. Go for quality over quantity by keeping it short and to the point. A two-page maximum is a good rule to follow.

* State your objective and know how your skills and experiences support the opportunity you are currently applying for.
* Use action words and phrases that highlight your accomplishments when describing your career experience.
* Always be HONEST about your skills and past work experience.
* Ask someone you trust to check over your resume before submitting it to ensure that the content is clear and that there are no grammatical or typographical errors.
* Be sure to include ALL your contact information.

New Beginnings~ By Bruce B. Wilmer

Each chapter that is ending
Leads us to a new beginning.
The past that we are leaving
Means a future we are winning.

Each change that fills the present
Sets the stage for our tomorrow,
And how we meet each challenge
Helps determine joy or sorrow.

In every new beginning
Spirit plays a vital part.
We must approach tomorrow
With a strong and steady heart.

So as we turn the corner
Let all apprehension shed
And fill our hearts with confidence
As we proceed ahead.

KUTLESS - What Faith Can Do lyrics

"Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think its more than you can take
But you are stronger, stronger than you know
Don't you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining

I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do

It doesn't matter what you've heard
Impossible is not a word
It's just a reason for someone not to try
Everybody's scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the water
It'll be alright
Life is so much more
Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing

I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do

Overcome the odds
You don't have a chance
(That's what faith can do)
When the world says you can't
It'll tell you that you can!

I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do
That's what faith can do!
Even if you fall sometimes
You will have the strength to rise....

Passion

Passion for the stars
Passion for the ocean
A moment of passion so easily shared,
With no fear or regret.
Passion is the eagerness to wake up with the light

A moment of passion I'll never forget
My passion found me
And what is my passion?
Passion and lust takes my mind

Passion the power to love,
The speed of passion...
Passion is something you see
Passion its something you are. ---Marisa Taylor

Find Lost Passion by Jane Powell..

“What do you think counts?”

If you’re not sure, then it’s time to rediscover what you feel is important. In

other words, what fuels your passion?

To rediscover this passion, start by simplifying your life. Quit doing things merely

out of habit. Turn off the TV for a month or turn off the radio while commuting to

work. See where your mind takes you. When you find yourself saying, “I love that,”

or, “This is fun,” take note. That inner voice is leading you toward your passion.

Become comfortable with the idea of doing what you like. As you discover what you

enjoy doing, you’ll find answers to what counts for you. And, that’s what being

passionate is all about!

Research - Exploring Careers & Employers

After learning more about yourself, you’re better prepared to explore careers and how they match your specific interests, skills, values, and personality. To determine which career fields may be a good fit, you must do your homework. This involves researching the workplace – specifically, the knowledge, skills, abilities, interests, and work values that are associated with various jobs.

Vary your research methods: read about careers, talk to people in jobs and industries that appeal to you, and gain hands-on experience to explore at a deeper level. A thorough and varied exploration will offer you the following rewards: a clearer focus for your career-decision making, a more targeted and manageable job search, rich information to leverage in cover letters and interviews, and finally - work that you love.

Career and LIfe Coaching Thought of the Day!

Even the worst of the worst interviews can still hold true value to your current job search. To truly benefit from the interview-gone-bad, explore and review the below process...

As soon as you leave an interview that you would classify as "not so great", create a list of every aspect of the interview that made it "poor". Spend as much time as you need on the list so that you can capture every problem; but make sure you create the list right after the interview, so everything is fresh in your mind. Evaluate immediately!

Create a list of every possible solution to the problems you just listed. This should be an ongoing process during your current job search.

Continue adding to your problems list. New interview meetings might reveal new evaluation. Over time, you will come up with effective solutions to those problems as well.

Continue adding to your suggestions and new techniques to your list. Ideas can come to you at anytime and you may happen to come up with better solutions to problems you already solved.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE.

Do what you love, and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. You don't like your job? Quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching tv. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over analyzing EVERYTHING. Life is simple. Every emotion is beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people. We are united in our differences. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities will only come once; seize them. Don't regret anything.
